5 ways yo be more human on social media

How human are you on social? 🤷‍♂️

I believe that being more human, indeed, more social on social is not only a wonderful thing but an effective way to cut through all the noise and build real connections.

Here are 5 tips based on my own behavior that consistently seem to be well received:

1️⃣ Respond to all comments and DMs. As I see it, people are so busy these days, and there’s so much content out they, if they take the time to leave a comment, or send me a dm, I will always get back to them and acknowledge/appreciate that. I hate it when people ignore their community.

2️⃣ Use peoples names. So simple, but goes a long way. Simply clicking through to someone’s profile before responding, and bothering to use their name is a lovely gesture.

3️⃣ Support others. So essential, especially for creatives. If you like what your friends and peers are doing then become their hype man! Share it on your stories, big them up. It may just make their day 😊

4️⃣ Respond with video. I’ll often respond to DMs with a quick video. It’s more personal and stands out as so few people do this. I’ve received hundreds of positive responses from folk who appreciated it.

5️⃣ Be real. Be you. It can be hard but expressing your authentic self, in your work or otherwise is so powerful. Share your weirdness. Drop that filter and put out your truth on social. No one wants to see another highlight reel!

RESPOND TO ALL COMMENTS AND DMS My ethos is, if someone takes the time out of their day to engage with your content, in a world where we are all drowning in content. The least you can do is acknowledge them with a heartfelt response.

USE PEOPLE'S NAMES Even when i'm responding to a lot
of comments, I'll often click through
to that person's profile, learn their
name, and use this in my comment
response. lt's a small gesture, but
often goes a long way with people.

SUPPORT OTHERS Supporting the work of others is huge
lf you have friends and peers putting
out great stuff, take the time to
share and appreciate it. Post it on
your stories. Give them a public
show of praise. lt might just make
their day.

RESPOND WITH VIDEO In a world of text chat, I'll often respond to my dms with a short video. Not only is this often quicker than typing, but it lets you express emotions easier. It also cuts through, as so few people do it, it often means more to the recipient.

BE REAL. BE YOU People are getting sick of the highlight reel of social media. Being your true authentic self, in your creative work or otherwise is hugely powerful. Embrace your weirdness. Don't be afraid to share your truth. Don't try to emulate someone else. Just try to drop that filter and put out the real you.
