This is at the heart of everything I teach! Quality over quantity.
Vanity metrics suck! They cause us to feel depressed because we don’t have 10k followers. They lead to desperate acts like buying a following to look more legit. This is a terrible idea!
I’m proud to serve a highly engaged community that actually cares about the value I put out. I would much rather my tiny audience of 3k with engagement through the roof, real relationships with my followers and real trust being built with those I serve here each day. That’s sooooo much better than some empty 100k following where no one engages or gives a shit.
You may be thinking – ‘ok, makes sense, but how do I get people to care more?’
The answer comes down to mindset. When you start realizing that a true fan is worth more than 1 million disengaged followers your behavior improves. You start caring more about the followers you already have, rather than neglecting them to chase after the next follower. You start to focus on bringing your audience real value, rather than sharing empty memes or like-baiting.
It’s the difference between what I do, giving my heart and soul to serving my audience every day, vs the douchebags who follow unfollow in an effort to inflate their own numbers.

WHAT ARE VANITY METRICS?
Vanity metrics are numbers like your follower count or website traffic. They may feel good, but they can be easily manipulated. They aren’t as important as things like engagement, revenue, and profit.
FOLLOWERS DON’T MATTER
- You can pay to get a large following
- There are people with massive follower counts but virtually no engagement
- Equally, some folks have smaller audiences but huge engagement
IT’S NOT HOW MANY FOLLOWERS YOU HAVE, IT’S HOW MUCH THEY CARE!

• When you pursue true fans and real engagement, rather than vanity metrics, it leads to better behavior
• Rather than chasing the next 1000 followers you start to bring more value to 1000 you have
• At my company, a partnership with an audience of 5000 performed twice as well as another partnership with an audience of 1 million.
• My Instagram following is small (3k) but I get more genuine engagement than some accounts with 250k!
